perception: the calming power of the debut neo-classical EP by Max Viner in collaboration with pianist Alexander Motovilov

Here at DEBUT, we love hearing about the release of new classical music!

London based singer-songwriter and composer Max Viner has a new EP coming in collaboration with pianist Alexander Motovilov - the next single perception is out on all streaming platforms on the 2nd August (with the entire record coming in the autumn). Their debut collaborative single ‘Rêve Subconscient’ came out earlier this month - and it is a stunning introduction of what’s to come from these musicians. The inspiration for the new compositions is the current turbulent state of the world, with Max believing we need to tap into our inner peace.

Max Viner is a musician in both popular and classical music, and I asked him to tell me what inspired him to make this recording, and what makes it so special.

”This composition explores the concept of the subconscious dream, capturing the state of mind when one daydreams - feeling both lost and deeply connected to the surroundings. The essence of the single Rêve Subconscient, is to remind listeners of the beauty in melody and the elegance of simplicity in recording’.

Max Viner studied composition in the USA, and has worked with musicians across all popular genres as well as composing for film and theatre projects in Eastern Europe.

When Max moved to the UK in 2023, he hadn’t touched a piano in over a year due to immigration issues. When he began his new job at Parlophone Records - he was delighted to find not one, but two pianos in his office! This reignited his passion for the instrument, often staying late in the office to squeeze some practise in!

Max’s debut neo-classical single Rêve Subconscient, was composed in February 2024 - and was his first creation in this genre.

Max then shared the composition with his friend, Estonian pianist Alexander Motovilov, who graciously agreed to record the piece - and then began their journey to compose together, the other 3 pieces that will make the EP.

Alexander is a rather exciting pianist to be following - with over 50 million streams of his music, and a string of sold-out solo shows across Europe.

I’m lucky enough to have had a sneak listen to the EP - and I urge you to give perception a listen when it drops on the 2nd August!
