In Harmony on the Road - Q&A with Przemek Winnicki

Polish piano sensation and DEBUT Horizon Artist Przemek Winnicki will be joining us again this month for our Secret Concert at Brunel Museum. Always a firm crowd favourite, we are super excited to have Przemek return to join us after his busy start to 2024!

Keep reading to find out about his most recent tour and life on the road.

Welcome back Przemek!
You’ve had a really busy start to 2024. I saw that you’ve just been on tour - tell us about it! Who have you been touring with, and what repertoire you were playing?

I was touring with Orchestra run by a Polish Company called ProMusica. They gathered musicians from all over Poland for this project and this year there we were also joined many musicians from Ukraine.

We were performing movie music – 4 different titles: Harry Potter, Starwars, Lord of the Rings and music written by Ennio Morricone. The tour was one month long and we performed 28 concerts all over Germany and Switzerland.

That’s a lot of concerts!
What was the favourite place that you performed in on tour?

All of the places that we visited in Switzerland were magical, especially Saint Gallen. Unfortunately on tour there is usually no time for sightseeing, but we squeezed in a walk in this city, and the surroundings were amazing! It's a place where mountains and lakes are right next to each other - it is truly breathtaking.

Are there any funny stories about things that happened on the tour?

There were probably many funny stories, because it is hard to choose just one! Our trumpet player got lost in Berlin just before the concert, and we ended up playing without him for the first few pieces...

What are your top tips for surviving tour life? Any objects you couldn't live without on the road?

I'm sorry to say it, but... I think having a smartphone is a must have to survive the long bus journeys. I was listening to podcasts or things on youtube, and it really made the trips go so much faster!

And... I got a sandwich maker, and it saved many of us from being super hungry... ON THE BUS!

What is your favourite thing about being on tour?

Definitely being with people - laughing and having a great time! I usually get to know new people that I get along with very quickly, and I think that is what being on tour is all about, besides of course, performing!

What music do you enjoy performing more, classical or movie music:

It's difficult to pick one, because I do enjoy performing both. But I must say that I find the crowd that comes to listen to the movie music, to be more enthusiastic. You can tell that they know the movie inside-out, and they react in a very vivid way to certain pieces. It's hugely satisfying!

What have you got coming up in the near future?

08.03 – Przeworsk (Poland) – MOK – Vienner Concert toghether with Princesses Orchestra

09.03 – Biała Podlaska (Poland) - Vienner Concert toghether with Princesses Orchestra
