Julian Chou-Lambert, composer & baritone

Julian Chou-Lambert’s musical development was influenced by growing up across western and eastern cultures in Cambridge, Singapore and Shanghai. He was awarded first class honours in Music (MA) from Trinity College, Cambridge, as well as a Mus B in cross-cultural perception of emotion in music, before graduating with a Masters with Distinction in Vocal Performance from the Royal Academy of Music. Alongside singing, Julian composes a variety of music, including vocal, instrumental and film scores.

Operatic roles include Peace at Last for OperaUpClose, and also ENO (postponed due to COV-19), Papageno for Berlin Opernfest, Hildebrand/North Wind in The Enchanted Pig for Hampstead Garden Opera, Dream Sweeper in his own composition The Lingerer for the ENO Mini Opera Competition Finals, Nardo in La Finta Giardiniera for Hand Made Opera, Marco in Gianni Schicchi and Maxentius in Sursum Corda for CUOS. Concert highlights include St. John Passion at Ely Cathedral, Carmina Burana at Dartington and Five Mystical Songs with Trinity College Choir. Song recitals include New Protest Songs at Shoreditch Town Hall and his own cycle Sommerlied & Winterleid for Pembroke College Music Society, Cambridge.

Further compositions include song cycle Dreaming for soprano and piano, BBC documentary Art of the Night, feature film Bonobo starring James Norton (Raindance Festival), Avant Garde Youth, a dance commission for Sky TV, and Isis: Egyptian Goddess by Sophie Siem (Honourable Mention: London Seasonal Shorts). Julian won second prize in the Deutsche Bank Awards for Music, and his two original music videos Yeah Shanghai! (Best APAC Music Video: International Sound Future Awards) and Reverie have been selected for multiple festivals.
