Hannah Shilvock, bass clarinet
Hannah is a clarinet and bass clarinet specialist, woodwind doubler and yoga teacher living in Brighton. She is passionate about promoting the bass clarinet as a virtuosic solo instrument, and has a large repertoire list of mostly contemporary works.
Hannah completed a Masters in Bass Clarinet Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with Distinction in 2020, where she was a scholar for the two years and was awarded with the Wilfred Hambleton Chamber Music Prize. She received a First Class Honours Bachelor of Music from the University Of Southampton in 2018, and was awarded the Peter Evans Prize for performance excellence.
In 2019, Hannah was a finalist in the first ever Silverstein Global Clarinet Contest, and has been named one of their ‘artists of the next generation’. In 2021 Hannah was a Bronze Award Winner for her performance in the Tunbridge Wells Interim International Music Competition, and most recently in 2022 was a finalist in the ERSO Soloist Of The Year competition with Michele Mangani’s Bass Clarinet concerto.
Hannah is a BG France and RATstands artist, and has recently published her arrangement of Debussy’s Cello Sonata arr. for bass clarinet and piano, with Alea Publishing.
This week as part of our Artist Development Programme, Horizon Project, we had two closed Masterclasses at Clapham Omnibus.
Why closed (with no-one else watching)? - So that both the artists and Gary and Jo could feel they could speak candidly, take more risks and allow themselves to be more vulnerable. Thanks to the great insights, tips and guidance from Gary and Jo, they were both really valuable and insightful sessions!
