DEBUTDrag (in development)
After watching Miss Davida Loca’s debut performance at the Shoreditch Treehouse before the pandemic, DEBUT’s founder Lizzie Holmes fell in love with the idea of bringing the worlds of opera and drag together. During lockdown these ideas were developed through conversations with Felicity Green, Benjamin Hamilton and David Fearn.
In August of 2021 the team came together for a weeks Research and Development as part of The Lighthouse, Poole’s SANCTUARY residency, culminating in a sharing of the new writing, including new settings of the Letter Duet from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Bizet’s iconic Habanera from Carmen.
October 2021 saw DEBUT’s return to the Shoreditch Treehouse after 18 long months. In the concert we were able to share the new writing in front of a larger audience and bring onboard pianist improviser Sam Peña. Going forward the team are continuing to shape the new show, applying for various funding support and look forward to premiering the completed work in 2022.
Don’t forget to sign up to DEBUT’s mailing list to be the first to hear about further developments of the show.
